The Tasting Room
Where do I park?
For the most up to date list of Downtown Syracuse parking, please refer to the Downtown Committee’s parking map We are nearest to the Washington Street Garage and the Federal Lot, and there is metered on-street parking on Erie Blvd W just to the west of our entrance and behind our building on W Water Street.
I’m having a birthday party on Saturday night, can I reserve a table?
Under the current Covid-19 restrictions, our seating is very limited. We suggest making reservations, especially for larger parties, and on weekends. To make a reservation, please call (315) 907-6060 during our normal business hours.
We also are available some Sundays and Mondays for private parties. Party size may be limited by Covid-19 restrictions We do not normally book private events during Tasting Room hours.
Do you have outdoor seating?
We have a small 3 table sidewalk cafe setup from May through October, weather permitting, with a wonderful view of some great Syracuse architecture including the historic Niagara Mohawk building.
Are children allowed?
Yes, well behaved children accompanied by a parent or legal guardian are welcome.
Are dogs allowed?
We love dogs too! Unfortunately, we also prepare food here, so we can only allow service dogs in the tasting room. In the warmer months when our sidewalk cafe is open (May through October, weather permitting) – friendly, well behaved dogs are allowed in our outdoor seating area.
Is the tasting room handicap accessible?
Yes, there is a ramp from street level to the tasting room area and there is an ADA compliant section at the end of the bar.
Do you have bathrooms?
Of course! There are shared bathrooms in the common area between the tasting room and Café Kubal.
Do you have TVs? I want to watch the game!
As we are focused on the tasting room atmosphere, our TVs are usually tuned into our community, product, and education displays. While we have previously shown some Syracuse University sporting events, due to our limited seating capacity, we are not airing games at this time.
Do you have brewery tours?
Our brewery is very small, so we do not have formal tours at this time. If you would like to view the brewery please ask a beertender if someone is available to give a short tour. (Note: you must have close toe shoes to enter the brewery area)
Do you have Wifi?
Yes, the username and password are posted in the tasting room
Food and Beverage
Do you serve food?
Yes, we have a small menu with Naan bread pizzas, snacks, mac ‘n’ cheese, charcuterie plates, and a variety of changing weekly food and soup specials.
Do you have vegetarian options?
Yes, we offer a vegan charcuterie tray, and at times have weekly specials that are vegan-friendly, and other options that can be modified to be made vegetarian or vegan.
Are your beers gluten-free?
Ours are not, however we serve NYS ciders as well as GF beers from Syracuse’s own Anything But Beer
Do your beers contain sulfites?
We do not add sulfites as a preservative to our beer. Any sulfur formation is the result of fermentation. The exception to this is our series of Italian Grape Ales. Sulfites are often added to the grape juice that we brew with prior to our purchasing it, so most of our IGAs will contain some sulfites. Our average usage of grape juice in IGAs is 10-15%.
Do you serve wine?
We have a selection of red and white wines from Thousand Island Winery available.
Do you serve liquor?
We offer a rotating selection of craft cocktails featuring NYS liquors. Most liquors will also be available neat or on the rocks.
Do you offer non-alcoholic beverages?
We do carry a limited selection of soft drinks and juice boxes.
Do you serve flights?
Yes, we serve flights of four 4-ounce pours for $8.00. Individual tasters are available for purchase as well. We also allow you to try a free 1-ounce sample of most of our beers.
Where can I get your beer?
Our tasting room is the best place to consistently purchase our beer. We are also currently available in many craft beer focused restaurants and bottle shops.
Our current general distribution area covers much of Central New York, up to Watertown, West to Rochester, through the Southern Tier, the Mohawk Valley areas, and the Capital Region / Upstate.
Untappd is a great resource for where to find our beer, though it works best for Verified Venues. Follow our social media postings on Facebook and Instagram for details on any other places/events we may be serving at.
If your favorite bar, restaurant, or bottle shop does not currently have our beers, let them know you would like them to!
Do you have beer to go?
Yes! Many of our beers are available in cans and bottles. We are also able to sell 32 oz Crowlers of most beers that are not already packaged.
Please note that by law, beer purchased “to go” can not be consumed in the Tasting Room.
Do you fill growlers?
You can purchase 32 oz Crowlers of most of our draft options, except for some limited releases / higher ABV beers, and beer that is already packaged in cans or bottles.
Although we do not carry Growlers, we will currently fill them provided that they are brought in clean, sanitzed, and you have a clean cap for them.
I live in Florida and have heard great things about your beer, can you ship me some?
At this time we cannot ship beer either in or out of state.
Do you brew your own beer?
At this time, all Talking Cursive labeled beer is brewed onsite on our 7 BBL Alpha Brewing Systems Brewhouse.
Are you a NYS farm brewery?
We are dual licensed as a microbrewery and a NYS Farm brewery. This allows us to serve you NYS wine, ciders, and spirits, while also allowing us to brew some beers that utilize specific ingredients not currently grown in New York State such as specialty malts and proprietary hops.
How do I know if a beer qualifies as a farm beer?
Currently, NYS beers must incorporate usage of at least 60% of New York hops and malt to qualify as a NYS farm beer. Our beers that meet these requirements can be identified in our beer descriptions on Untappd. You can also ask any staff member which beers currently on tap qualify as NYS farm beer. In accordance with NYS law, our guest taps are all NYS farm beers.
I own a store/bar/restaurant and would like to carry your beer. How can I do that?

Our current area includes much of Central New York, North to Watertown, through the Southern Tier, West to Rochester, and East to the Mohawk Valley. We are also starting to distribute to the Captial and Upstate Regions.
At this time we have no plans to distribute outside New York State.
We’re hosting (insert beer festival / event name here) can you send us your beer?
Please contact AJBrooks@talkingcursive.com if you are interested in having us pour at your event. Preference is given to paid events, charity events, and events where actual brewery staff is serving the beer.
What is the significance of the names on your fermenters?
Our fermenters are named after former brewers in Syracuse. Ashbel (Kellog) and Davenport (Morey) owned a brewery on our current site 200 years ago when Erie Blvd was the Erie Canal. George (Zett), Herman (Bartel), and Thomas (Ryan) were all prominent brewers in the 19thand 20thCenturies.
How can I get a donation for my organization?
We regularly donate to local non profit organizations. Click here to request a donation. Please be aware that due to the number of requests we receive, donations are limited and not all requests can be honored.
